Where to keep jewellery Part III

Today’s post is about the second category of jewellery keepers. It’s a fun, beautiful and practical approach to keep all jewelry in one place. It is basically three similar designs, but I can not think of the common name for these – jewellery trees and jewellery hangers.. so I’ll just talk about all of them separately and maybe then I’ll choose how to call them one-word.

Jewellery trees can be a functional and artistic. These are an immitations of trees, which have a trunk and branches. For example:

Your rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets can land on such jewellery tree. The advantage of such organizer is that in most case the jewellery doesn’t tangle, doesn’t have a contact with each other and thus doesn’t damage each other. You can always see your beautiful jewellery and you don’t have to search for it for hours. I like such organizer because it not only serves the sole purpose of displaying jewellery, but it can also add the decorative feel of your home.
However, since such trees will probably be kept on the desk or on the table, their disadvantage, imho, would be that they are visible to everyone. Again, your jewellery then loses its privacy.

Jewellery hangers differ from jewellery trees in their design. They look like a smaller version of a hallstand and their design can also vary. Take a look at the examples:

Some of jewellery hangers can be wall-mounted and therefore allows you to save some space. Disadvantage is the same – jewellery is too visible. But if you love explicitly glory your jewellery, this will be perfect for you.  The great design can become a part of your home décor.

I am now a bit confused on whether there is any difference between the jewellery hanger and jewellery stand? Let me know if you have any ideas, and let’s unravel this jelter-skelter together ;)

I will  edit this post later by adding more concrete information so come back later ;)

Where to keep jewellery Part II

Here is the Part II of the results of our small research.

We now have six major categories of jewellery organizers. Let’s list them:
  1. Boxes
  2. Stands/ trees/ hangers/ tiers
  3. Screens
  4. (Hanging) pocket keepers/ organizers
  5. Jewellery cabinets
  6. Improvised jewellery organizers

In this post I will discuss some main + and – of the first category – jewellery boxes.

I’ll begin with simple one-section jewellery boxes, which can vary in size. Example:
Advantage – good if you don‘t have lots of jewellery and the ones that you have are made of the same material (I believe you know, that each piece of jewellery made from different materials should be kept separated). Gold rings and necklaces should be kept separated from silver rings and necklaces.  It is nice to have few such boxes for some special jewellery that you adore and that reminds you of precious moments or special people. Lets use these uniquely designed one-section boxes for single pieces of jewellery.

Disadvantage – if you have lots of jewellery, you will definitely need more than one box. How many you’ll need? And how much space they will take? Will it be comfortable to look through all of these boxes when searching for jewellery you need on this special/important Tuesday? Or will you learn the contents of each box by heart? :) Consider this.

Then there are jewellery boxes that have separate sections for rings and for other jewellery.

These boxes IMHO are great for jewellery sets. If you have one necklace that goes perfectly with few of your rings, why not to put all of them into one box? So the advantage is that you can keep more than one piece of jewellery in it and that you can organize your jewellery according to its color/style/whatever.

The disadvantage – there still is not enough room for all of your jewellery, not even close to it..

So again, it is useful when you have just a few jewellery pieces, otherwise you’ll have the same mess that I already have :)

There are also bigger jewellery boxes with several sections-drawers and even mirrors.
Advantages – practical, because there is a mirror and quite a lot of drawers and separated spaces. You can keep it in your bedroom, or where there is no mirror. The second picture illustrates the men’s jewellery organizer. They might also need these ;) Consider this when making your Christmas present list :) These are useful for those who like the variety of jewellery materials – they gives an opportunity to keep your jewellery separated so that they would not be harmed by each other.
I can’t see disadvantages of these, but I would say that classic design of the box (as in the pictures above) requires classic jewellery to be kept in it, but then where to put all of your hand-made jewellery or bijouterie??

Here comes, as I call them, monster-boxes. By the word “monster” I mean huge. These are also called jewellery storage chests.
I will begin with disadvantages. The first thing that I don’t like about this-kind of plastic transparent organizer is that… it looks cheap. Call me finicky, but big pieces of transparent plastic look cheap to me.. The second thing – I don’t want my whole jewellery to be seen by everyone. I think jewellery has to have some secret, and therefore it should be kept more privately. If this would not be transparent I think I would consider it as an option.. I am still not sure about the solar effect on jewellery which is kept in transparent boxes, but I promise to find this out. And I am pretty sure that this could be another disadvantage…

What about advantages? Well, on the other hand, it might be useful. Due to its transparency you can see what’s inside and you don’t have to waste your time searching and thinking where on earth are your favourite earrings

And this is probably it. All boxes now have been discussed, and next post will be about jewellery stands, trees, hangers and tiers.

Since it looks like I am still writing this blog for myself (only 46 page views much of which are mine..) I encourage YOU, as one of the first unique visitors, post, comment and share you insights! I would be grateful!

See you soon!

Where to keep jewellery

I love jewellery. I am addicted to jewellery. If only I could afford myself, I could buy it almost every second day :) whenever my friends go abroad, they do not have to die trying to think what to bring me form their trip – of course, jewellery!

My addiction is already 5 years-old now (how old is yours?) and I am afraid to think of the amount of earrings and rings I possess. No surprise, there is a mess in my jewellery box (-es). Therefore, a few days ago I have decided to sort all the things out. I made a small research on how to organize jewellery and I would like to share my findings with you.

Of course, the www is full of great ideas. Of the bad-ones too. How not to lose in such a mess of jewellery organizing tips, tricks and advises? To begin with, I would like you to go to Google images search and type in „jewellery organizer“ or „where to keep jewellery“, so that you would have a better understanding on what we are going to talk about. Don‘t forget to come back! :)

Are you back yet? Do you imagine the „enormousity“ of the jewellery organizers variety? We will have to sort these things out step by step. In this post let’s just determine the main types of jewellery organizers.
The most common is probably simple jewellery boxes, which you can find and buy in almost any local shop or shopping center.  The others, such as stands/trees/hangers/tiers, screens, (hanging) pocket keepers/organizers, cabinets can be found in specialized stores and of course, in ebays, amazons and other e-shops. And the third type – improvised jewellery organizers. These are handmade pieces-of-art which are eye-catching and practical at the same time. These are usually found when visiting neighbours, aunties or spending time on tiny internet websites which belong to diligent-hand-owners :)

I suppose I have mentioned the main categories, but if you think I have missed something, just let my now by posting below the article. I would appreciate your contribution ;) In the future posts I will discuss all of these categories in detail, I will give visual examples, and I will try to discover the advantages and disadvantages of each organizer. You are also welcome to share your experiences!

I believe in the course of time we will scan all of the jewellery-sorting possibilities and the mess will be gone from our jewellery boxes!
